En faldende pH-v\u00e6rdi har en negativ effekt p\u00e5 effektiviteten af den biologiske proces, fordi mange af de involverede mikroorganismer er f\u00f8lsomme over for sure forhold. En for lav pH-v\u00e6rdi kan f\u00f8re til reduceret enzymaktivitet og v\u00e6ksthastighed hos mikroberne, hvilket bremser eller endda stopper reduktionsprocessen. Det er is\u00e6r <a href=\"https:\/\/microbewiki.kenyon.edu\/index.php\/Dehalococcoides_mccartyi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Dehalococcoides mccartyi<\/em><\/a> stammerne, som er ansvarlige for den fuldst\u00e6ndige omdannelse af PCE og TCE til ethylen, er meget f\u00f8lsomme. Det opretholder et stabilt, neutralt til let alkalisk milj\u00f8, hvor de involverede mikroorganismer kan fungere optimalt.
