For eksempel kan en oliebaseret kulbrinte v\u00e6re en nyttig kulstofkilde for visse bakterier, og et kloreret opl\u00f8sningsmiddel som tetrachlorethen (PCE) kan bruges som elektronacceptor af en anden bakteriestamme. En afg\u00f8rende indsigt i et bioremedieringsprojekts succes er at bestemme forureningens rolle p\u00e5 stedet, og hvilken n\u00f8glekomponent der er n\u00f8dvendig for at fremme bioaktiviteten. Dette kaldes i branchen for overv\u00e5get naturlig nedbrydning (MNA), fordi alle komponenter, der er n\u00f8dvendige for cellev\u00e6kst og reproduktion, er til stede, og bioremediering finder sted uden ekstern stimulering. <\/p>\n<p>N\u00e5r der mangler en elektrondonor eller -acceptor, er biostimulering ofte en mulighed for at supplere den manglende komponent. Og n\u00e5r de mikroorganismer, der udf\u00f8rer disse reaktioner, ikke er til stede, kan bioaugmentation forts\u00e6tte reaktionen og lette bioremediering. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Biostimulering:<\/strong> Tils\u00e6tning af kosttilskud for at \u00f8ge den mikrobielle metabolisme og fremme bionedbrydningen. Dets sammens\u00e6tning og produktion er omhyggeligt udviklet til at muligg\u00f8re effektiv diffusion i den m\u00e6ttede zone og til at give en langsigtet kilde til brint, som mikroorganismer bruger til reduktiv nedbrydning af visse forurenende stoffer (s\u00e5som tetrachlorethylen og trichlorethylen, eller PER &amp; TRI, og deres nedbrydningsprodukter). <\/p>\n<p>Generelle produkter, der fors\u00f8ger at efterligne vores teknologi, kaldes emulgerede vegetabilske olier eller EVO (Emulsified Vegetable Oils).<\/p>\n<p>I mods\u00e6tning til generiske EVO-produkter er vores patenterede EOS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>-teknologi formuleret, s\u00e5 oliedr\u00e5berne er meget sm\u00e5 (~1 mikron) og har en let negativ ladning. Det forhindrer dr\u00e5berne i at klumpe sig sammen og fremmer samtidig adsorption p\u00e5 svagt positivt ladede grundvandsmaterialer. I en laboratories\u00f8jleunders\u00f8gelse viste Long og Borden (2005), at en enkelt injektion af emulgeret sojab\u00f8nneolie kan underst\u00f8tte fuldst\u00e6ndig reduktiv deklorering af 10.000 \u00b5g\/L PCE til ethylen i op til syv \u00e5r. Feltfors\u00f8g med emulgeret olieteknologi udf\u00f8rt af US Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE) har vist, at emulgerede spiseolier holdt i mere end tre et halvt \u00e5r p\u00e5 Dover Air Force Base (AFB), mere end tre \u00e5r p\u00e5 Edwards AFB og mere end to et halvt \u00e5r p\u00e5 Altus AFB. Et nyligt biobarriereprojekt st\u00f8ttet af Environmental Security Technology Certification Program viste, at en enkelt EOS-injektion varede mere end halvandet \u00e5r, mens den reducerede indstr\u00f8mningsperkloratkoncentrationer til under detektionsgr\u00e6nsen (mere end 99,9 % reduktion) med samtidig reduktion af 1,1,1-TCA til ikke-toksiske slutprodukter (Zawtocki et al., 2004). Boreomkostningerne er dog kun en del af de samlede projektomkostninger. St\u00f8rre afstand mellem injektionspunkterne kan \u00f8ge de samlede omkostninger ved at \u00f8ge injektionstiden (dvs. l\u00f8nomkostningerne).  <\/p>\n<p>Grafen nedenfor illustrerer effekten af boreomkostninger og flowhastigheder i injektionsbr\u00f8nde p\u00e5 den billigste br\u00f8ndafstand. N\u00e5r injektions- og boreomkostningerne er lave, er det faktisk billigere at bruge br\u00f8nde med lille afstand. Men n\u00e5r boreomkostningerne og\/eller de opn\u00e5elige injektions- og flowhastigheder stiger, bliver st\u00f8rre br\u00f8ndafstande mere omkostningseffektive. Ved store projekter er det nyttigt at lave omkostningsoverslag for forskellige br\u00f8ndafstande for at finde det billigste alternativ. Det er designet til at vandre ind i grundvandsmagasinet ved omgivelsestemperatur og lavt tryk v\u00e6k fra injektionspunktet. Evnen til at indf\u00f8re materialet i grundvandsmagasinet i en betydelig afstand fra injektionspunktet er en vigtig fordel ved EOS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>.  <\/p>\n<p>EOS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> leveres som koncentrat i 200 L tromler eller 1000 L IBC&#8217;er eller i bulk og skal fortyndes f\u00f8r injektion i et forhold p\u00e5 mindst fire dele vand til en del EOS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>. Afh\u00e6ngigt af dit specifikke design kan en &#8220;vandjagt&#8221; eller et indledende fortyndingsforhold p\u00e5 10:1 bruges til injektionsform\u00e5l. Begge metoder er lige effektive, og hver har sine fordele. Den vigtigste overvejelse er at levere den rigtige m\u00e6ngde EOS\u00ae til hele behandlingszonen.   <\/p>\n<p>En fordel ved at bruge EOS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> p\u00e5 dit anl\u00e6g er, at du kan bruge de injektionsmetoder, du \u00f8nsker. Vores erfaring har vist, at hvor direct push-teknologi kan bruges, kan installation af mikrobr\u00f8nde (\u00be til 1-tommers PVC-br\u00f8nde) v\u00e6re en meget omkostningseffektiv l\u00f8sning. Mikrobr\u00f8nde er dog hverken bedre eller d\u00e5rligere end konventionelt installerede br\u00f8nde. Vi har fundet ud af, at brug af skyllevand reducerer arbejdsomkostningerne. At \u00f8ge fortyndingsforholdet i koncentratet har samme effekt som at skylle. I stedet for at fortynde koncentratet 4:1 med vand og foretage en skylning, kan man blot \u00f8ge fortyndingen og undlade at skylle. Til efterskylning kan systemet automatiseres til at levere drikkevand til undergrunden. En lavtryksforsyning af drikkevand kr\u00e6ver ikke overv\u00e5gning p\u00e5 stedet, men en indspr\u00f8jtet fortyndet emulsion skal overv\u00e5ges. Downstream-overv\u00e5gning ved hj\u00e6lp af visuelle indikatorer (s\u00e5som gennembrud i downstream-overv\u00e5gningsbr\u00f8nde) eller en stigning i total organisk kulstof (TOC) kan bruges til at evaluere, hvor langt EOS<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> har bev\u00e6get sig gennem grundvandsmagasinet. Som minimum b\u00f8r dit overv\u00e5gningsprogram omfatte de relevante forurenende stoffer og reduktions-oxidationspotentialet (REDOX). Feltparametre som pH, ledningsevne og opl\u00f8st ilt anbefales ogs\u00e5.  <\/p>\n<p>Et mere detaljeret overv\u00e5gningsprogram kunne omfatte uorganiske forbindelser (f.eks. nitrat og sulfat), metaller (f.eks. jern og mangan), total organisk kulstof, lette kulbrintegasser (metan, ethan, ethylen) og muligvis flygtige fedtsyrer.
