Bei diesem Prozess werden chlorierte Verbindungen Schritt f\u00fcr Schritt zu weniger sch\u00e4dlichen Substanzen wie Ethylen reduziert. Ein sinkender pH-Wert wirkt sich negativ auf die Effizienz des biologischen Prozesses aus, da viele der beteiligten Mikroorganismen empfindlich auf saure Bedingungen reagieren. Ein zu niedriger pH-Wert kann zu einer verringerten Enzymaktivit\u00e4t und Wachstumsrate der Mikroben f\u00fchren, wodurch der Reduktionsprozess verlangsamt oder sogar gestoppt wird. Insbesondere die <a href=\"https:\/\/microbewiki.kenyon.edu\/index.php\/Dehalococcoides_mccartyi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Dehalococcoides mccartyi<\/em><\/a> St\u00e4mme, die f\u00fcr die vollst\u00e4ndige Umwandlung von PER und TRI in Ethylen verantwortlich sind, sind sehr empfindlich. Bei einem pH-Wert <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enviro.wiki\/index.php?title=Low_pH_Inhibition_of_Reductive_Dechlorination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">von &lt; 6<\/a> sinkt ihre Aktivit\u00e4t auf Null.<\/p>\n<p>Die Pufferung des pH-Werts, z.B. durch Karbonatpuffer oder die Zugabe von alkalischen Substanzen wie Natriumbikarbonat oder Magnesiumhydroxid , verhindert ein zu starkes Absinken des pH-Werts. Dadurch wird eine stabile, neutrale bis leicht alkalische Umgebung aufrechterhalten, in der die beteiligten Mikroorganismen optimal arbeiten k\u00f6nnen. Die Dissoziation von Hydroxid-Ionen (OH<sup>-<\/sup>) aus dem Mineral wird durch den S\u00e4uregrad (pH-Wert) des Mediums gesteuert. In Grundwasser mit einem niedrigen pH-Wert werden mehr OH- Ionen freigesetzt, wodurch der pH-Wert ansteigt.
