Electron donors

EOS-EU logo – substrates

Electron donors or also called organic substrates are an essential component of enhanced reductive dechlorination (ERD)/anaerobic biological groundwater remediation. Chemical contaminants such as chlorinated solvents including Ethenes (PCE, TCE, DCE, VC), Ethanes (Trichloroethane), Methanes (Tetrachloromethane), Perchlorate (ClO4) as well as Hexavalent Chromium, Explosives (TNT, RDX, HMX), Nitrates and Radionuclides (TcO4- , UO22+) require the addition of such a substrate to enable conversion to harmless end products.

EOS-EU logo Formulations

There are several formulations of EOS substrates. Which substrate is best for your saturated zone depends on the type of soil material, soil porosity and groundwater flow rate. QM Environmental International can help you determine which type of EOS substrate and how much is needed.

EOS-EU logo Pro

Scientifically optimized formula of emulsified soybean oil with nutrients and vitamin B12. Average droplet size of 1 µm allows optimum substrate transport in the saturated zone, even in very dense soils.

EOS-EU logo QR

Rapidly absorbable glycerol-based substrate. Provides a rapid increase in microbial activity and rapidly converts an aerobic saturated zone to an anaerobic zone.

EOS-EU logo100

Water miscible substrate with high retention in the saturated zone due to an average droplet size of 10 µm. Suitable for highly permeable soils with high groundwater flow rates and biologically active screens. Shipped as a waterless concentrate with built-in emulsifier making on-site emulsion easy.

EOS-EU logo zvi

A two component product based on micro zero-valent iron (m-ZVI) and EOS Pro or EOS100. The zero-valent iron and EOS substrate is selected based on saturated zone properties so you get the best product for your specific site and not a standard emulsified ZVI product.

To be mixed on site in a 1:1 ratio. For combined biotic and abiotic reduction at DNAPL contamination sites. Quickly reduces ORP of aquifers with less risk of vinyl chloride formation.
