The disposal of animal and vegetable oils and fats is a major challenge for food manufacturers, local authorities and wastewater treatment companies. When Fats, Oils and Greases (FOG) enter the sewer system, they can cool and solidify. This often leads to persistent blockages in sewer pipes and pumping stations at companies, in municipal sewers and sewage pumping stations and at sewage treatment plants (STP’s). Grease separators are essential for food manufacturers and the hospitality sector to prevent FOG from entering the municipal sewer or the company’s wastewater treatment plant. Insufficient maintenance and overloading of the grease separator can still cause problems in the municipal sewer or STP’s.

These products contain specific micro-organisms that break down fats and oils into harmless components such as CO2, water and new bacteria. MicroCat® products

MicroCat® -BioPOP

The MicroCat®-BioPOPs consist of a slowly dissolving carrier of a biodegradable biopolymer, in a cylindrical shape, containing 9 different bacterial strains, in a high concentration, selected for their FOG-degrading properties. The cylinder is in a durable porous net. They are developed to prevent FOG accumulation in water-containing bodies (grease separators, sewage pumping stations, buffer tanks, etc.). They are installed and held in place by means of a rope or chain. The MicroCat®-BioPOPs contain environmentally friendly and safe, naturally occurring, micro-organisms and their enzymes. The micro-organisms are specially selected for their properties to break down (and not just dissolve) fats, oils and greases and other organic contaminants that occur in waste water from kitchens and the food industry, but also domestic waste water.

The MicroCat®-BioPOPs are available in 6 different sizes so that the right size is available for every system and wastewater flow rate.

MicroCat® -DNTRF

MicroCat®-DNTRF is a highly concentrated microbial powder with natural fat-degrading bacteria. It is formulated to biodegrade grease and oil that accumulates in drains and grease traps of food manufacturers. MicroCat®-DNTRF also contains enzymes and additional synergistic ingredients to keep drains, grease traps, sumps and septic tanks clean and clear.

The MicroCat®-DNTRF powder is prepared in lukewarm water before dosing. Automatic dosing systems for powders are available on request.

MicroCat®-GEL & GEL-XP: Effective Fat Breaking Solutions for Hospitality Kitchens and the Food Industry

MicroCat®-GEL & GEL-XP are powerful biological FOG degraders, specially developed for drains in catering kitchens and the food industry. These innovative products contain an advanced blend of grease breaking micro-organisms and enzymes that effectively break down grease and prevent blockages.

By daily dosing – manually or via an automatic dosing pump – MicroCat®-GEL & GEL-XP ensure efficient fat breakdown. The bacteria convert fats into water and CO2 and form a protective biofilm on the inside of the drain pipes. This biofilm protects the bacteria from heat and disinfectants, which keeps them active for a long time.

In addition, the biofilm helps to continuously break down fats that adhere to the pipe wall. When the biofilm becomes too thick, parts are released and the bacteria spread through the pipe, preventing fat accumulation throughout the entire drainage system.

Biofilm development

MicroCat®-GEL is a regular FOG degrading product. The product is packaged in a 20 liter jerry can. An average restaurant uses 1 jerrycan every 2 months.

MicroCat®-GEL-XP is a highly concentrated liquid so only a very small amount of product needs to be dosed per day. An average sized restaurant will last 200 days with a 5 L jerrycan.
