FOG degradation & Odour Control in Sewer Networks<\/p>\n<\/div>

Odors from sewer lines and pumping stations are caused by volatile fatty acids and\/or hydrogen sulfide (H2<\/sub>S) or by accumulated oil and grease. Case study on H2S control in a pressure sewer network \u2013 MicroCat-ANL<\/h2>
This case study evaluates the effectiveness of using microbial products to reduce hydrogen sulphide (H2S) over a 3 year period and compares the costs to a chemical (nitrate) treatment program. The study showed that H2S was reduced to less than 10 ppm 95% of the time. The cost of the program was 41% lower than the chemical program, saving the client over \u20ac21,000 per year. The program also had further downstream benefits at the WWTP including reduced oxygen demand (BOD), improved solids settling (lower sludge volume index) and reduced odor. <\/div>

Case study Municipal sewer network maintenance \u2013 MicroCat-BioPOP<\/h2>
This case study describes the effectiveness of using microbial products to control grease build-up in overloaded municipal sewer networks. This particular local authority in the Netherlands needed to have parts of their sewer network cleaned every quarter. Using MicroCat-BioPOPs in their network saved them over \u20ac30,000,- on their maintenance costs. <\/div>

In the city centre of York, UK, they have a long history of FOG related issues with the sewer system. Despite ongoing efforts by the Network Protection Team to tackle the problem at source, they continue to experience problems. With the focus on wastewater discharges at an all-time high, they sought a new approach to address this issue in postcode area YO1.\nA 1-year trial of MicroCat BioPOPs began in September 2023 and was found to be successful in addressing the problem.
