Deze proef, uitgevoerd door Yorkshire Water in samenwerking met Cobra Hydro UK Ltd, heeft geleid tot een complete eliminatie van rioolverstoppingen veroorzaakt door vetten, oli\u00ebn en smeermiddelen (VOS).<\/p>\n<p>De techniek maakt gebruik van de milieuvriendelijke <strong>MicroCat-BioPOP Bio-Blocks<\/strong>, die langzaam oplossen in het rioolstelsel en daarbij natuurlijke vetafbrekende microben en enzymen vrijlaten. Deze micro-organismen breken vetten effici\u00ebnt af, waardoor de vorming van verstoppingen en het risico op <strong>overstromingen van rioolwater<\/strong> sterk worden verminderd. De inzet van deze biotechnologie is een primeur op grote schaal in het Verenigd Koninkrijk.<\/p>\n<h3>Hoe werken de BioPOP Bio-Blocks?<\/h3>\n<p>De Bio-Blocks worden direct in het riool geplaatst, waar ze continu microben doseren die vetten en oli\u00ebn afbreken. Dit voorkomt dat afgekoelde vetten zich ophopen en andere materialen zoals etensresten en vochtige doekjes samenklonteren tot zogeheten \u2018fatbergs\u2019. Zulke vetproppen kunnen leiden tot ernstige <strong>rioolproblemen<\/strong> en in het ergste geval lozing van vervuild water op straat of in lokale waterlopen zoals de rivier de Ouse.<\/p>\n<p>Sinds de installatie van de BioPOP Bio-Blocks in september 2023 zijn er in het testgebied geen meldingen meer geweest van <strong>rioolvervuiling<\/strong> of verstoppingen door vet. De blokken worden om de twee maanden vervangen, wat zorgt voor een constante en effectieve bacteriebehandeling van het rioolnetwerk.<\/p>\n<h3>Bewustwording en samenwerking met de horeca<\/h3>\n<p>Naast de technische oplossing heeft Yorkshire Water ook ingezet op bewustwording binnen de lokale horeca. Horecazaken werden actief benaderd om voorlichting te geven over verantwoord vetbeheer en het belang van het niet doorspoelen van vetten via de afvoer. Deze gecombineerde aanpak draagt bij aan het structureel verminderen van vetgerelateerde verstoppingen in het rioolnetwerk.<\/p>\n<h3>Positieve resultaten en landelijke aandacht<\/h3>\n<p>Kelly Burke, netwerkbeschermingsfunctionaris bij Yorkshire Water, zegt hierover:<br \/>\n<em>\u201cDe proef in York is zeer succesvol verlopen. Dankzij de BioPOP-doseerblokken hebben we in het afgelopen jaar geen enkel incident gehad van vetgerelateerde verstoppingen of riooloverstromingen. Dit laat zien hoe effectief deze biologische oplossing is.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Ook Clint Jackson, directeur bedrijfsontwikkeling bij Cobra Hydro UK Ltd, bevestigt de impact:<br \/>\n<em>\u201cSinds de start van het project in 2023 hebben we een kosteneffectieve en duurzame oplossing geboden tegen de ophoping van vetten in het riool van York. De resultaten spreken voor zich.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>De innovatieve aanpak van Yorkshire Water kreeg landelijke aandacht.
