Durante este processo, os compostos clorados s\u00e3o reduzidos, passo a passo, a subst\u00e2ncias menos nocivas, como o etileno. A diminui\u00e7\u00e3o do pH tem um efeito negativo na efici\u00eancia do processo biol\u00f3gico, uma vez que muitos microrganismos envolvidos s\u00e3o sens\u00edveis a condi\u00e7\u00f5es \u00e1cidas. Um pH demasiado baixo pode levar \u00e0 redu\u00e7\u00e3o da atividade enzim\u00e1tica e da taxa de crescimento dos micr\u00f3bios, abrandando ou mesmo parando o processo de redu\u00e7\u00e3o. Em particular, o <a href=\"https:\/\/microbewiki.kenyon.edu\/index.php\/Dehalococcoides_mccartyi\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><em>Dehalococcoides mccartyi<\/em><\/a> respons\u00e1veis pela convers\u00e3o completa do PER e do TRI em etileno, s\u00e3o muito sens\u00edveis. A pH <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enviro.wiki\/index.php?title=Low_pH_Inhibition_of_Reductive_Dechlorination\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> &lt; 6<\/a>, a sua atividade cai para zero.<\/p>\n<p>A aplica\u00e7\u00e3o de um tamp\u00e3o de pH, por exemplo, atrav\u00e9s de tamp\u00f5es de carbonato ou da adi\u00e7\u00e3o de subst\u00e2ncias alcalinas, como o bicarbonato de s\u00f3dio ou o hidr\u00f3xido de magn\u00e9sio, evita que o pH des\u00e7a demasiado. Isto mant\u00e9m um ambiente est\u00e1vel, neutro a ligeiramente alcalino, no qual os microrganismos envolvidos podem funcionar de forma \u00f3ptima. A dissocia\u00e7\u00e3o dos i\u00f5es hidr\u00f3xido (OH<sup>-<\/sup>) do mineral \u00e9 controlada pela acidez (pH) do meio. Em \u00e1guas subterr\u00e2neas com um pH baixo, ser\u00e3o libertados mais i\u00f5es OH<sup>-<\/sup>, aumentando o pH. O aumento do pH diminui a dissocia\u00e7\u00e3o dos i\u00f5es OH<sup>-<\/sup> e ocorre a remineraliza\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n<p>Isto permite uma a\u00e7\u00e3o a longo prazo em que o mineral liberta os
