Micronutrients
The Importance of Micronutrients in Biological Wastewater Treatments.
Micronutrients play a crucial role in biological wastewater treatment plants and are indispensable for optimal operation of the treatment process. In addition to macronutrients such as nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), which are essential for the growth and reproduction of microorganisms, micronutrients such as iron, zinc, copper and manganese are vital. These trace elements support enzymatic processes and promote the development of a healthy and active biomass in treatment plants. Industrial biological wastewater treatment plants, in particular, are regularly deficient in micronutrients due to the one-sided nature of the wastewater.
Essential growth factors
A shortage of micronutrients can lead to reduced treatment system efficiency, resulting in poorer degradation of organic matter and nutrients. Therefore, ensuring a balanced supply of both macro- and micronutrients is essential for stable and sustainable wastewater treatment.
By paying attention to micronutrients in wastewater management, treatment plants can operate more efficiently and contribute to improved water quality and environmental protection.

MicroAktiv®-BY
MicroAktiv®-BY is a natural microbial activator that improves the ecosystem in which bacteria live. The natural ingredients of MicroAktiv®-BY stimulate naturally occurring or added microorganisms to increase their cellular metabolism resulting in better performance.
Bacterial strains required for decomposition of wastes in wastewater treatment, soil remediation and composting of plant wastes can be hampered in their activity due to improper nutrient management. In particular, trace element deficiency is often a cause of reduced biological activity. MicroAktiv®-BY supplies the necessary trace elements to the bacteria so that they can continue their breakdown activities unhindered. MicroAktiv®-BY additionally provides a natural biosurfactant that accelerates transport through the cell membrane of the bacteria, allowing the bacteria to operate with higher than normal activity.
MicroAktiv®-BY consists of fermented plant and seaweed extracts containing trace elements, vitamins and enzymes that are fully absorbed by the microorganisms present. This results in:
- A more stable ecosystem
- A more effective conversion process
- A reduced development of bad odors
- Shortened breakdown time
MicroAktiv®-BY is composed entirely of natural raw materials and harmless to humans, animals and the environment.
Applications
MicroAktiv®-BY can be applied in biological systems such as:
- Sewers and pumping stations
- Wastewater buffer tanks
- Sewage sludge storage
- Sludge dewatering
- In situ & Ex situ soil remediation
- Wastewater Treatment
- Composting
Dosage:
MicroAktiv®-BY is a concentrated liquid used, depending on the dry matter content in the water, at a dilution of 1:100,000.
MicroAktiv®-BY is available in 20 L jerry cans, 200 L drums or 1000 L IBCs.

Applications
- Industrial biological wastewater treatment plants
- Sewage treatment plants (STP’s)
- Groundwater treatment
- Biological soil remediation
Shelf life: 5 years
MicroCat®-TM is available in 11.3 Kg buckets.

MicroCat®-AD
MicroCat®-AD is a special blend of micronutrients, microorganisms, microbial growth accelerators and neutralizing agents for stimulating (and restoring, if necessary) biological activity in anaerobic systems in general and anaerobic sludge digesters in particular.
MicroCat®-AD provides a unique, balanced blend of microbes, minerals and vitamins. It is specially formulated for use in acidified and inactive sludge digesters to restore activity and methane production.
Applications
Anaerobic sludge digesters suffer from operational problems once in a while, including:
- Acid fermentation syndrome – caused by acid build-up with simultaneous delay or cessation of gas production
- Grease blankets – caused by the accumulation of insoluble materials on the surface of the digester
- Nutrient imbalance – caused by a deficiency of certain key micronutrients. This slows down the sludge stabilization process.
Shelf life: 5 years
MicroCat®-AD is available in 11.3 Kg buckets.
