Small Bioreactor Platform
The QM-SBP technology uses capsules equipped with micro-membranes that function as a Membrane Bioreactor (MBR). The capsules are supplied with a small amount of MicroCat® bacteria and the membranes keep the bacteria in the capsule, while wastewater with dissolved contamination can flow into the capsules unhindered. In the capsules, the bacteria grow on the incoming waste materials and multiply until the capsule is full. The capsules are made of biodegradable organic material and do not burden the environment. The capsules have an average lifespan of 2 months.
The SBP capsules form a small bioreactor (Small Bioreactor Platform). Where daily bioaugmentation doses are applied in sewage and industrial wastewater treatment plants, the SBP capsules can be used as an alternative. This reduces the daily labor effort and the amount of bioaugmentation product that is dosed into the treatment plant per year. By placing the SBP capsules in a cage and hanging this cage in the aeration basin of the wastewater treatment plant, they do not flow out of the treatment plant but remain there until the capsule breaks open. The bacteria that have multiplied in the capsule are then released into the aeration basin and become part of the biomass in the aeration tank.
In principle, any dried MicroCat® bioaugmentation product can be used in the SBP capsules. This allows a wide range of wastewater treatment plants to be equipped with the QM-SBP technology. All that is needed are cages to hold the capsules in the treatment and levers to lower the cages into the water and raise them again when capsules need to be added.
