Biological surface water & aquatic soil remediation

Algae growth and contaminated dredge are a major problem in many areas of the country.

Surface water quality in ponds, water depots, canals, rivers and lakes is affected by the influx of contaminants.

Fertilization in agriculture or on golf courses, discharge of treated or untreated sewage, industrial chemical discharges, or excessive numbers of waterfowl and even fish, will seriously affect the water quality of the receiving water body. This can lead to algal blooms (eutrophication) and even the complete extinction of aquatic life (distrophication).

Pesticide leaching and leaching of creosote from quay shoring also cause contamination of the water bottom because these contaminants tend to adhere to organic sludge particles. As a result, much dredge must be stored in special depots and cannot be deposited directly on the shore.

Bioaugmentation can help restore the water’s natural balance and control algae growth by absorbing the nutrients that algae use (nitrogen and phosphate). In addition, organic silt layers and pollutants can be biodegraded.

Below are a number of practice reports on applications with QM products.

Practice report - Algae control in irrigation ponds

In Chile, algae growth in irrigation ponds is a major problem. Blockages of irrigation pipes and drip lines due to algae are often not noticed until late, reducing the productivity of agricultural plots, in addition to involving a lot of work to unblock them. This field report talks about the application of MicroCat-AL-N and how this product greatly reduces algae growth in these basins.
